Digital Nomad Visa

Requirements€3,480/month minimum income

Must prove average monthly income of at least €3,480 from remote work or business for non-Portuguese entities. Need: employment contract, client contracts, or business ownership proof. Health insurance mandatory. Criminal record check. Process: apply at Portuguese consulate in home country. Takes 2-4 months.

Duration and Renewal1+4 years possible

Initial permit 1 year. Renewable up to 4 more years (total 5 years). After 5 years, can apply for permanent residence or citizenship if qualify. During validity, can come and go freely. Perfect for digital nomads wanting base in Europe.

NHR EligibilityQualifies for NHR 2.0

Digital Nomad Visa holders can apply for NHR 2.0 status. Establish tax residency (183+ days), apply for NHR by deadline. Foreign employment income tax-exempt under NHR. Optimal situation: remote work for US/UK company, live in Portugal tax-free for 10 years.

D7 Passive Income Visa

For Retirees and Investors€870/month minimum

D7 visa for those with stable passive income: pensions, rental income, investments, dividends. Minimum €870/month (single) or €1,305 (couple). Must prove regular income stream. Popular with retirees. Easier requirements than Digital Nomad visa.
